Turning 30, Floods & Sister’s Engagement

What an unbelievably crazy time it has been lately!

To start this post off, I had a crazy week the other week, going for a big job interview, moving house, and turning 30 all at once! It was a super stressful time co-ordinating everything and making sure I tried to focus on one thing at a time. But it all turned out well, I moved house successfully, and my party was a big hit. I really enjoyed celebrating this milestone with all my friends and family.

It’s so crazy thinking I am 30 now and as I look back on the years and all the old photos on the slideshow, I am reminded of how far I have come and what I accomplished in life and how God has guided me. All of the different people that have moved in and out of my life making me who I am now. Speaking of which, my sister had a really heartfelt and funny speech and I may have shed a few happy tears.

Looking around the tables I saw all the people that are my nearest and dearest and I couldn’t have felt more lucky and grateful for the blessing they are to my life. It truely was a special evening.

Alongside my turning 30, I have now secured a new room in a house with new lovely housemates who I exercise with, and socialise with as well. AND my sister got engaged to her partner of a decade, so very very exciting news!

But the real surprises happened very soon after – we got an incredible amount of rain in Brisbane recently which led to devastating floods in our rivers and basically ruined a lot of homes, and flooding roads. The last really big flood we had was in 2011, and I wasn’t living here then, but now I am and see the devastation. Outside my work building there is flooding, and they had to close as water was getting into the lifts. So I have had some time off this week.

As for my apartment and car, thankfully the area I live in is not a flood zone, and close to shops for supplies. So I am very grateful! Unfortunately though a lot of people have suffered major financial loss, and one man nearly even lost his life being swept away in his houseboat.

I went for a walk yesterday to a small bridge that connects suburbs, and one suburb Oxley is quite flooded. It is directly next to the river, and a lot of it looks like a nature reserve now, with trees sticking up out of the water and people kayaking in the floodwaters.

The dam has reached full capacity and is now letting out waters in intervals, and there is expected to be more rain this week! Country towns like Lismore and Gympie has gone completely under water, and I saw a video of someone I know’s car go under water, and she had to even kayak out of her home. Crazy crazy times! Especially with Russia invading Ukraine now, the world has never looked so crazy. My prayers go out to these countries, and hopefully this war will end soon.

Sending my best wishes out to everyone, no matter where you come from.
